John-Paul and Caroline met in their first year of university at Imperial College in London (John-Paul was studying Information Systems Engineering, and Caroline was studying Biology). They were both living in the college's only catered residential hall, Linstead, and met over dinner one day in the first month. After a few weeks of "will they or won't they", they finally got together in early November 1997.
After university they moved out of London to Leatherhead, and bought their first house in March 2003.
In June 2005 they went on an epic adventure, driving around Spain. Along the way they climbed Veleta, the third highest mountain in Spain, where John-Paul got down on one knee and asked Caroline to marry him. Caroline, being the kind soul she is and not wanting to see him suffer, immediately said yes!
