This page contains all the info we have for guests attending the stag event.
The event is based around Neath in South Wales. Our accomodation is: Merlins Backpackers, 44-46 Commercial St. Ystradgynlais, Swansea, SA9 1JH. Tel: 01639 845670.
The organisers are Call of the Wild, 6 Commercial Street, Seven Sisters, Neath, SA10 9DW. Tel: 01639 700388. Call of the Wild Stag Party site.
There's a bus going from Neath railway station at 2130, but I think we'll have enough cars to pick people up after that if necessary. There's a group railway ticket going from Paddington, which Gef is arranging. Those travelling from the North West or surroundings should talk to Mark as he will be travelling from the Manchester area.
Health: These activities will be of a dangerous/adventurous nature so you need to be in good health and of average fitness. The organisers ask that anyone who has any medical conditions please inform them. Examples are Diabetes, Asthma, Epilepsy, rare blood group, heart conditions, heamophilia, etc.
Clothing: There's a detailed kit list and extra information below. Probably the most important thing to note is don't wear jeans as they become extremely heavy and uncomfortable when wet.
The organisers seem very keen on making sure you bring the right clothing. Up front, they recommend:
Apparently they have some walking boots available to borrow if you don't have your own, please call them if you don't have your own.
The various activities require some specific kit, here's what you need:
Here's the contents of an e-mail sent to Mark by Call of the Wild.
Here is some useful information regarding the weekend which you need to forward to the rest of the group. I have attached the directions and a kit list for the canyoning activity. Please note we recommend walking boots with ankle support for canyoning however, trainers with good grip are acceptable.
You will all stay at Merlins which is in a village called Ystradgynlais. When you arrive on the Friday night, we provide a light meal which is a Welsh dish called "Cawl". This is like a lamb or beef stew (tastes a lot better than it sounds, honestly!) Please inform us if any of the group are vegetarian etc. on 01639 700388. More importantly, there is a bar at the accommodation. Remember all the group are staying in bunkhouse accommodation so they need to bring their own towels, toiletries etc.
On Saturday after a full cooked breakfast we transport you onto your first activity which is the Quad activity. We provide a helmet, overalls, gloves, protective glasses and wellingtons when you are on the bikes so you'll all need to wear old suitable clothing. There is also an archery competition in between runs on the bikes.
After the activity we transport you back to the accommodation where you will have a 2 course evening meal.
On the Saturday night we are able to provide transport to take the group into Swansea for the night out (£5 per person return trip). Swansea is a great night out, there are plenty of pubs and clubs to choose from. Wind street is the place to go for the pubs, as for the clubs the more popular ones are Jumpin Jacks, Play, Time, Envy, Crow bar, Monkey bar and Escape. Most clubs in Swansea do not allow blue denim jeans, you must wear a collar and shoes (no trainers).
Anyone being abusive to the drivers on a Saturday night will be told to leave the bus and make their own way home! No food or drink are allowed on the vehicles. Smoking is also not allowed on the vehicles.
On Sunday you have a full cooked breakfast after which we transport you on to your second activity which is canyoning. We kit you out in helmets, wetsuits, cags and buoyancy aids but we recommend you wear walking boots with ankle support. You will also need to bring an old pair of shorts which we ask you to wear over the wetsuit (to give our wetsuits some protection), preferably a micro fleece underneath the wetsuit and another layer on top (preferably another fleece). Remember to bring a set of dry clothes to change into at the end of the day and a towel as you may get a little bit wet!!! If you need to wear glasses during the activity, bring a retainer strap to keep them on!!
After the activity we take you back to the accommodation where you'll "reluctantly" begin your journey home! Please remember to complete the group list, signed by each person and hand in on arrival.
Important: please make sure you are ready for pick up times each morning as the drivers will not have time to wait!
